Punjab: MBBS student allegedly commits suicide due to Depression

Ludhiana: An aspiring doctor, a second-year MBBS student attached to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) allegedly committed suicide in his quarters at campus hostel.

The unfortunate incident took place on December 2, when the father of the 19-year old MBBS student found him hanging to the ceiling fan in his room. The student had allegedly ended his life due to 'mental distresses'.

The day of the incident, the father of the MBBS student, who is a medical practitioner in a town in Ludhiana, visited him. When he reached his son's hostel room and knocked, no reply came back. Afterwards, the hostel authorities broke open the door and discovered the body of the young medico

Later the police were called and soon an investigation was initiated by them. However, no suicide note was recovered from his room.

According to the father of the deceased MBBS medico, his son was excellent in studies but since almost a year, he was "mentally distressed". The student was also availing treatment for his depression but there was no recovery. For this very reason his parents visited their son every week and used to take him out.

The father informed the police that the MBBS student had deactivated his social media accounts and even stopped using his mobile phone in the last one month.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased MBBS student hardly used to interact with anyone at the medical institute and remained in his room most of the time in isolation.

The police informed The Indian Express, "On Sunday (December 2), when he did not come out of his room for an entire day, not even to have meals in the hostel mess, the hostel administration informed his parents and police. His body was found hanging when they broke open his door and no suicide note was recovered."
