PG Medico Suicide: IMA AP demands reinstatement of SV Medial College Principal

Tirupati: Even as the CID and the three-member committee constituted by the Medical and Health Department started their investigations into the suicide of SV Medical College's postgraduate student, Dr B Shilpa, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) came out in support of Dr N Ramanaiah, demanding that he be reinstated as principal.


Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that A PG medical student at SV Medical College sent an email to the state Governor, ESL Narasimhan in the last week of April alleging that three professors in the Paediatrics department were sexually harassing her

The student, meanwhile, was upset after she failed in the post-graduate exams. She had told her friends that she had been deliberately failed as she had complained against the professors. Upset over the whole stream of affairs, she allegedly took her own life by hanging herself. The 30-year-old woman doctor was found hanging at her flat.

With the case now under the charge of the CID, the agency's Chief, Amit Garg, has appointed CID Nellore, SP, Ammi Reddy as the Head of a special investigation team to look into the suicide


The newly appointed head and his team are believed to have visited the SVRR Hospital and SV Medical College and interacted with students and some teaching and non-teaching fraternity, according to sources reported the Indian Express.


Meanwhile, a memorandum for the reinstatement of the Principal, Dr Ramanaiah has been submitted to the CID investigation Committee by the Indian Medical Association, President, Srihari Rao and other local leaders.


Speaking to the media IMA leaders said Dr Ramainaiah "had his own limitations and has to follow the instructions of his higher-ups".
