Bengaluru: The uncontrolled ragging menace continues to plague Indian medical institutions. In a recently reported case, five final-year MBBS students are reported to have been arrested by the Police for allegedly ragging a first-year Dalit student in ESI Medical College, Rajajinagar.

The accused MBBS students hail from different states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. They were arrested on 26th December on the basis of the complaint filed by the victim student pursuing the first year in MBBS in the same medical college as them.

The horrific incident happened on December 24 at around 10 pm inside the medical college campus hostel. It has been alleged that the accused senior students entered the junior's room and slapped him. Adding to that, the police officials stated that the senior MBBS students then took the junior medico to the terrace and cut his hair and abused him by invoking his caste.

More than 40 first-year students complained to the Principal that they were beaten up, given Murga punishment and their hair was cut off in a mucky way.
