Govt Mental Health Centre Kozhikode bags NBE nod to begin DNB Psychiatry with 4 seats

Kozhikode: The Government Mental Health Centre Kozhikode has received permission from the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to offer Diplomate of National Board (DNB) course in psychiatry. Two seats have been allotted post MBBS and two seats for post-diploma degree courses.


The permission was granted to the GMHC after the inspection carried out by a team of officials of NBE on March 1, 2019. It was conducted under the leadership of former superintendent Dr N Rajendran. The inspection team was lead by Dr Bhavesh Kumar Lakdawala, associate professor of BJ medical college, Ahmedabad. The inspection team then gave a positive heads up to the institute to start DNB courses

Dr K C Remasan, superintendent of GMHC, Kuthiravattom told the TOI, "Credit goes to the entire staff of GMHC. It was our long-cherished dream to start DNB course in psychiatry. The process was initiated with the help of Dr V R Rajendran, principal of Kozhikode Government Medical College; Dr K S Mohan, rtd professor in psychiatry and Dr P Krishnakumar, director of IMHANS, Kozhikode."


"The duration of the course is three years for post MBBS and two years for post-diploma students. Admission process has already commenced. Faculty of IMHANS, doctors of GMHC and medical college will take classes for the students,'' he further added.

The selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of rank obtained in the national level DNB CET DNB- CET entrance test.


The institute offers free treatments to and food for the mentally ill patients. It is affiliated to National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS).
