Brutal Ragging at UP Medical College: More than 100 MBBS students parade in campus with shaved heads

Lucknow: The act of ragging seems to have no boundaries as more than 100 MBBS students of Saifai Medical College in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh were forced to shave their heads by their seniors. The menace did not stop here as these 1st-year MBBS students were also made to march inside the campus saluting their seniors with bald heads.

The videos of the entire act was filmed which soon started doing rounds on various social media platforms.

The viral videos show the MBBS students walking in a straight line with shaved heads while another video shows the medical students jogging and bowing to offer a salute to a group of students standing closeby.

The videos soon drew outrage on platforms of social media

Reacting to the same, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr Raj Kumar, stated that stringent action will be taken against those involved in the incident.

"Strong action will be taken against those involved. We have suspended students earlier also. I want to assure juniors that they need not worry," he told news agency ANI.

He further added that the MBBS students can talk to their warden, besides he will keep a watch.

State government officials are yet to comment on the issue.

With this, it has indeed become alarming as the number of ragging cases in the state increase. Last year in November Medical Dialogues had reported that Shaikh-Ul-Hind Maulana Mahmood Hasan Medical College (Government Medical College Saharanpur) from where 52 MBBS students were suspended from class for one month and from the hostel for six months on account of ragging first-year MBBS students wherein the students at the receiving end was beaten up and their hair was cut in a mucky way.

Ragging is a growing menace in medical colleges. Despite the Medical Council of India(MCI) coming out with the Medical Council of India (Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Medical Colleges/Institutions) Regulations, 2009 cases of ragging continue to surface.While several states in the country have laws specifically for ragging, various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) apply to instances of ragging such as sections 339, 340, 341, 342, 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 349, 350, 351.
