Madurai: Bringing major relief to an MD Paediatrics medico, who intended appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Specialty Courses, NEET SS 2019 in order to pursue DM Medical Oncology, the Madras High Court has issued a notice to the admission authorities and granted its permission to the doctor to take the examination.

The feeder qualification requirements for Medical Oncology in DM (Doctor of Medicine) were changed in April this year by the apex medical body, Medical Council of India (MCI) due to which the doctor was unable to apply for the NEET SS 2019 online.

TOI reports about the case of the petitioner where the division bench of honourable Justices K Ravichandrabaabu and Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy of Madurai bench at Madras High Court has ordered the concerned authorities and permitted the petitioner to appear for the NEET SS 2019.

The case is that of a doctor who completed MD Paediatrics during the year 2014 is that as per the earlier Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulation 2000, (PGMER 2000), the feeder qualification for DM Medical Oncology course was MD Medicine or MD Radiotherapy or MD Paediatrics.

Accordingly, he had appeared for the NEET SS 2018 and successfully secured 51st rank and was allotted a medical college in Mumbai to pursue DM Medical Oncology course. However, he was not able to join the course due to personal reasons.

Thereafter, this year, the MCI had amended the feeder qualifications of 2 DM and 4 MCh courses (Master of Chirurgie) in India.

The effect was issued in a gazette notification released by the MCI on Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulation 2019.

In particular, Earlier for DM Medical Oncology, the prior requirements were MD Medicine, MS Radiotherapy, and MD Paediatrics.
