    Ministry of Health issues Letter of Intent to 16 Dental Colleges for over 130 MDS Seats

    Through a recent notice, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed about dental colleges getting the Dental Council of India (DCI) nod for commencement/ increase of seats in Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) course for the academic year 2019-20.


    There are a total of 16 Dental colleges who have been given Letter of Intent (Lol) by the Ministry. All these dental institutes had applied for a specific number of MDS seats, while some applied for an increase, some sought the commencement of this course at their institutes.


    With the approval, more than 130 MDS seats will be added across various specialities including Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Public Health Dentistry, Oral Medicine & Radiology, Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Periodontology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge.


    Taking into consideration the recommendations of the Dental Council of India, a Lol for starting of MDS course in the various specialities at the below-mentioned dental institutes is issued for obtaining certain essential documents required for issuance of Letter of Permission (LoP).

    The Ministry will issue necessary letters calling for documents etc. shortly and the letters will also be uploaded on the website of the Ministry.


    Following are the documents/undertaking/acceptance of conditions that the Ministry has directed all the dental colleges to furnish:-




    • The applicant should provide all infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching and nonteaching staff, buildings. equipment and hospital facilities as per norms of Dental Council of India.

    • No student should be admitted in the above course until the formal permission of the Central Government is granted.

    • The Private Dental College should provide Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) of the required amount in favour of the Dental Council of India, New Delhi was valid for the entire duration of the course from a nationalised/scheduled Bank.

    • The Dental Colleges/institutions will provide an undertaking to implement any decision of the Dental Council of India/ Central Government regarding payment of stipend to the PG students.


    The notice further mentions:

    Action to grant formal permission of the Central Government for the increase of seats in the above specialities at your college will be initiated on receipt of the compliance report fulfilling the 'conditions enumerated in paragraph 3 above. The acceptance letter along with bank guarantee may be sent immediately within 15 days from the date of issue of this letter so as to enable the Central Government to issue Letter of Permission for the year 2019-20.
