Yet another Ragging at Saharanpur Medical College: 6 MBBS students Fined, Suspended for 3 months
Saharanpur: Saharanpur based medical college Shaikh-Ul-Hind Maulana Mahmood Hasan Medical College has sparked yet another controversy as six MBBS students have been suspended for three months for ragging the first-year medical students. The college was in the news last year as well when 51 of its medicos were pulled up for ragging juniors.
This time, taking a stringent view of the matter, the medical college administration has imposed a fine of Rs 5000 each on the MBBS students indulged in ragging while restricting them from attending classes and staying in the hostel.
Confirmation to this effect was given by the medical college principal Arvind Trivedi to the media who stated that taking cognizance of the matter, serious action has been taken against the MBBS students which will be learning for other medical students. He further added that this is not an instance of negligence from the staff but an act of recklessness from the senior students.
The incident took place on August 20 2019 (Tuesday), when a group of six senior medical students of 2018 batch forcefully entered the boy's hostel allotted to the batch of MBBS students who had taken up admissions this year. Thereafter, the fresh batch of medical students was allegedly forced to sing songs and later to dance all night on the tunes.
The information about the ongoing act of ragging was soon given by the hostel warden to the principal of the medical college. Immediately Anti-ragging squad was sent on the lookout wherein two of the senior students were caught while rest of them managed to escape.
Later, during an inquiry by the Anti-Ragging Squad, other medical students involved in ragging were identified. As per a report by Amar Ujala, the squad submitted its report stating the involvement of 4 senior students of 2018 batch and two other seniors involved in ragging. Thereafter, the six of them were suspended for three months. It is learnt that suspension order in writing is yet to be furnished to these six students.
It is further reported by the local daily that the students presently named in the ragging case were the victims of ragging in 2018.
Prior to this, in 2018, 52 MBBS students were suspended from class for one month and from the hostel for six months on account of ragging first-year MBBS students. Three third-year medical students and 49 students pursuing the second year at the medical college, ragged around 40 medical students of 2018 batch; the late night on November 25.

Talking to The Indian Express, Tiwari stated, "Last year too, when an incident of ragging took place, we took strict action and rusticated 51 students. This is not an instance of negligence from the staff but an act of recklessness from the senior students. We have taken serious action against them and this will send a message."
Meanwhile, sources at the medical college told the daily, "The matter could have been turned worse, but a few doctors got to know about it and caught two of the seniors while the others managed to escape. Other senior students involved were later identified. The matter then reached the principal and action was taken against them."
No official complaint has been given to Sarsawan police station about the ragging incident, though they are informed about the incident already.
