With 1600 MBBS seats still vacant, SC to hear plea for new round of counselling

New Delhi: The Third round of counselling is being sought from the Supreme Court for medical and surgical courses across the country by a doctor Senthil Nathan in a petition filed in the apex court.


Dr. Nathan, in his plea, has declared nearly 1,600 seats as vacant in medical and surgical courses across the country after the second round of counselling. He has recommended a third round of counselling as a solution to the arisen problem.


A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, justices DY Chandrachud and AM Khanwilkar will hear the matter on Friday.


NEET has been a point of conflict ever since the Supreme Court passed strictures, making it mandatory, for all medical and dental admissions, across private and government colleges in the country. This has sparked off nationwide protests


Recently, a Dalit student took her life in the state of Tamil Nadu, when she failed to clear the NEET exam for this year, reports HT.
