With the Supreme court judgement slating NEET as the only entrance point to MBBS or BDS courses in the country, private medical colleges are now claiming that there are no such provisions of providing admissions under ‘the first come, first served basis,’ from the NEET merit list.

For instance, Admissions in IQ City Medical College, Durgapur have been initiated. IQ medical College has 150 seats, 50 of them are to be shared with the state government. Admission to 10 seats are to be done through the NEET merit list, with no scope for first come, first served basis, according to Anthony.

"Our admission process has started and we are sending regular reports to state medical education department," said Francis Anthony, Founder Member of IQ City Medical College, Durgapur.

Announcing admissions to being on in all other private medical institutions, SK Bandyopadhyay, Director , Medical Education said, "We are keeping a close watch on the developments. The admission process is on for almost all of the private medical colleges. But we do not have any control on them."

"So far we have not received complaint about any other college," he added.

State Medical Education Department is likely to send a team to KPC Medical College, when it resumes its counselling process.

Principal, ICARE Institute of Medical Science and Research, SK Bhattacharya said that they would soon be releasing an advertisement regarding admissions. ” We will go by the Supreme Court order and guidelines from MCI,” he further added.

According to sources, ICARE has 100 seats for the MBBS course this year, of which 33 are shared with the state government.

"Rest of the seats are filled up based on the NEET score following the SC order," said Bhattacharya .
