West Bengal: First Trauma Care center inaugurated by CM at RG Kar Medical College

Kolkata: The state's first 'Trauma Care Center' at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital(RGKMCH), was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee through a video conference from Uttar anya in Jalpaiguri, recently . With this development RG Kar Medical College becomes the first medical college hospital to have a separate dedicated building for trauma care in West Bengal.


Though ready a year ago, it was not opened to patients due to unavailability of faculty and insufficient infrastructural facilities. The various departments that shall be incorporated in the building include neuro-surgery, orthopaedic, anesthesiology, medicine, and neuro-medicine,


This would result in facilities being available to patients under the same roof. The facility will have a bed strength of 150. A newly constructed conference room at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital were also inaugurated by Ms Bannerjee.


Millenium Post reported that the trauma care centre will take in emergencies and given special care. Equipped with modern facilities the centre will be able to handle trauma patients. victims of fire and accidents would be given immediate attention at this center. The state health department officials are confident that the modern facilities available at the centre would help save lives of many an accident victims.


Sources said that the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital authorities spoke of having written to senior health officials of the state Health Department urging them to open the trauma care centre equipped with faculty and adequate infrastructure and nursing staff round the clock. A special Committee constituted to look into the matter held meetings with hospital authorities reports millennium post.


Chairman of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti, RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Santanu Sen, said patient would commence at the trauma care unit will start from Wednesday following the inauguration. He said one of the most advanced trauma care centers had come up at the hospital following the Chief Minister's initiative.


Dr Sen on Wednesday inaugurated a 'Patient Party Meet Centre' at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors met the family members of the patients admitted to the various departments, at the hospital.
