We are prepared to face any probe in medical college admissions: Narayanasamy

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that his government was prepared to face any probe into the admission of students to self financing private medical colleges and deemed universities in the Union Territory.

Addressing a press conference here, the Chief Minister said that the whole process of admission of students for various PG and Diploma courses in the private medical colleges and deemed universities was handled by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) in 'a very transparent and fair manner'.

He said that the Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, had, however, been making allegations that 71 seats under government quota in the deemed universities and private medical colleges were 'bartered away to private managements'.

She had also come out with charges that 'political leaders and officers have committed corrupt practices and scams' in finalising admission under government quota. Mr Narayanasamy said that he had challenged the Lt Governor on the floor of the Assembly through a statement to prove her allegations and accusations against the officers and also the political leaders.

'It is ten days now since I asked her to prove her charges. But she had not come out with any proof or evidence so far. I want to know what she is going to do now', the Chief Minister asked reiterating that the CENTAC had carried out its task in an 'transparent and perfect manner' in finalising the students for PG and diploma courses in deemed universities and private colleges'.

He said that Dr Bedi was occupying a 'responsible position and has been appointed by President to be Lt Governor of Puducherry. But she had been making baseless charges against the government', Mr Narayanasamy said.

The Chief Minister's attention was drawn to seeking of CBI probe recently by office of Lt Governor into alleged scam in the admission of students to private medical colleges. He said 'we are prepared to face any probe as we have clean record in admission matter' and maintained that his government was always for the welfare of the students. He said he had also written a detailed letter to the Union Health Minister apprising him of perfect procedure and fair functioning of the government in the admission of students. 'The Health Minister had also praised our steps by contacting me over phone', he claimed.
