WBJEE 2016 Medical Entrance Exam Expects to be held in mid-July

Kolkata: With the NEET ordinance where, the Central Government had clarified all the confusion by saying that the states have the freedom to conduct their own Medical entrance test in order to get admissions in medical colleges

With this relief, there is a good news for west Bengal Medical Aspirants. Now the Bengal students have the opportunity to appear in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (Medical) on 17, May, 2016, who were earlier denied for the entrance test. .At Present, Bengal has around 3000 seats combining MBBS and BDS.

West Bengal government is likely to schedule the WBJEEM in mid-July. A final decision regarding the date of holding the exam will be taken after chief minister Mamata Banerjee takes office. The counselling session for the seats in 17 government and private medical colleges will begin from August. The classes are expected by end August or beginning of September.

Speaking with TOI, a sources from Health department said, "We have decided to hold the entrance test already. A date will be finalised within next week. Those students who had applied to appear in the examinations and yet could not do so will be able to sit for the test".The results will be published within two weeks from the date of conducting the exam", he added.

The Exam will be for 200 marks, 100 marks for Biology, 50 chemistry, 50, physics and the exam is likely to begin from 9:30 am with the first paper being Biology.

According to the sources, the examination centres will be allotted across the state and in Tripura.

Along with this, it is reported the Medical Council of India (MCI) has allowed the state government to increase 100 seats at Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital and Midnapore Medical College from the present year.

"We are however waiting for a final approval from the MCI to make a formal announcement," said a senior health department official.
