WB: Intern lady doctor harrassed by patient relatives; scuffle breaks out

Kolkata: The Calcutta National Medical(CNMCH) College’s emergency ward became a scuffle arena after a lady intern was manhandled by a patient’s relatives admitted in the ward. The relatives alleging medical negligence got into an argument with the lady intern attending on the patient, on Saturday night after his condition deteriorated, a few hours after admission. Other interns came to the lady’s rescue, which led to a fight between the two groups.The victimized intern Tanima Chakraborty’s parents on being informed lost no time and lodged a complaint at the Beniapukur police station, leading to the arrest of two.


The Junior doctors expressed their concern over the poor security of staff at the hospital, after the incident. The doctors also threatened to give a call for a strike, if security arrangements were not improved.


Junior doctors at the CNMCH complained that staff attacks by patient relatives were on the increase of late and needed to be controlled.They alleged, there wasn’t enough security manning the campus.


The college authorities, however, assured them that matters would be looked into reports Millennium Post.
