On the basis of the video, the cops were suspended by the concerned authorities.

The actions against cops were taken on the basis of a video footage, showing the police team misbehaving, City Superintendent of Police Ran Vijay Singh confirmed to the news agency PTI. “The senior superintendent of police directed us to suspend the personnel concerned,” the officer added to his statement.

The recent ANI tweet confirms the same in which it has been stated that the incident was an act of gross imprudence by few errant cops. "Irresponsible & insensitive behaviour by UP cops would not be tolerated. Corrective action is being taken: OP Singh, UP DGP on a woman abused & slapped by cops for being friends with Muslim man in Meerut," the post read.

The police have detained 18 people associated with the VHP in connection with the incident so far; a senior officer informed PTI adding that a case has been registered against 20-25 more unidentified people.

Meanwhile, the female MBBS student has alleged that the officers wanted her to file a rape complaint against her Muslim friend, according to ANI. She said, "There's nothing like that. Police reached later & put us in separate vehicles. They misbehaved with me. In police station, a woman asked me to file a rape complaint against him. My family & I refused."

She also added, "We were sitting & studying when members of Bajrang Dal came, locked me up in a room & beat him (the other medico) up. They asked me for an ID & taunted us saying 'how will you get married? He's Muslim, you're Hindu'."

Further, narrating his horror to the NDTV, the male MBBS medico said, “Those people beat me until blood began dripping from my eyes and nose, but they did not care. They kept hitting me in my private parts, and I feared that I will not survive. My eyes have been bleeding continuously since that day, and I have difficulty breathing."

Medical Dialogues has reported about the incident where the MBBS students were brutally thrashed by a mob of angered men associated with Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) after they got the news that the students were allegedly falling into love jihad. The students used to study together at the residence of the boy.

Later, the duo was handed over to the police claiming that they were engaging in love jihad. The MBBS students were eventually released as both of them were adults and there was no complaint filed by any of their family members.
