AIIMS Rishikesh rusticates Six medicos for Vandalized shop, Thrashing its Owner

70-80 students of the premier institute, All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), allegedly vandalised a shop and thrashed locals in a drunken state


Rishikesh: The administration of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh branch, has taken out a strict action and rusticated six of its medical students on account of allegedly vandalising a shop, thrashing its owner and damaging vehicles parked outside it in an inebriated state.


AIIMS administration rusticated six students for eroding the institute's prestige, its Dean Surekha Kumar said.

The medicos will not be able to enter the institute till further orders.


The incident took place on Monday night, October 15. During the clash between AIIMS medicos and locals, several people were injured in the incident of rioting and stone-pelting between 400 people, according to Amar Ujala.


As per a complaint lodged at Rishikesh Kotwali, 70-80 students of the premier institute vandalised a shop and engaged in a thrashing of the locals. "They also assaulted the shop owner and damaged vehicles parked outside the store," Kotwali SHO Ritesh Kumar Shah informed the news agency PTI while adding that the students were allegedly in an inebriated state at the time of the incident.


Two students of the institute were detained for interrogation and the CCTV footage was being examined, the SHO said.


On 16th October, following the instability at the Institute premises, the AIIMS administration rusticated six of the involved medical students. The suspended students will not be able to enter the institute premises till further orders on the matter.


Dean also informed Amar Ujala that the guardians of the expelled students have been notified about the case. They will have to furnish a written guarantee that their wards will no longer be part of such chaos. Local representatives have also been urged to maintain a dialogue with the management of AIIMS.


At present, the institute has set up a high-level inquiry team to investigate the matter thoroughly.
