Dehradun:The Medical Council of India (MCI),has granted another month's extension to Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), to remove the discrepancies pointed out by the education regulator during its December 2016 inspection. The December inspection was conducted prior to granting of a Letter of Permission(LOP) to the college. The earlier term which was to end in the first week of February, is now extended to the 1st week of March. The apex body has agreed to the extension on the college's plea that the model code of conduct is enforced in the state, due to the assembly elections.

The Principal of the Doon Medical College, Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta confirmed the extension of the MCI deadline. Speaking about the existing deficiencies, the Principal promised early fulfillment of them all. Dr. Gupta informed that the process of filling the vacancies had already begun. The attachment term of doctors of Provincial health service in the medical college hospital has been increased for another one year as well.

Last year's December inspection by the MCI had pointed at the large number of vacant faculty positions in various departments of the college. 41% faculty positions lie vacant at the college presently, reports the dailypioneer.com.

The MCI team had also raised objections to the old diagnostic machines in the Radiology Department of the associated hospital of doon medical college and took into account the non functional CT scan machine. Lack of furniture in the college laboratories was another objection raised by the MCI.
