Nainital: Dr Susheela Tiwari Government Medical College and Hospital is in all likelihood to lose its permanent accreditation by the Medical Council of India(MCI), for MBBS courses in the face of 8 faculty positions lying vacant.

On September 7 ,an MCI team had visited the Institute for a surprise inspection, only to find several irregularities. The officials discovered that of the total of 8 existing vacancies, there was one each vacant in the biochemistry and dental departments and six others in radiology. Fifteen positions of resident and senior resident doctors have also been lying vacant at this city's only government medical college.

Public Relations Officer, Alok Upreti, said: "We are working towards fulfilling the requisite criteria that will help us secure the MCI accreditation."

The institute was granted permission to run MBBS courses in 2004 by the MCI and an extension for the same was granted till 2009, due to its satisfactory profile. A permanent accreditation was granted the same year, reports TOI.
