Uttarakhand: 2 injured as Leopard enters medical college, hiding behind classrooms

Dehradun: Two people were injured when a leopard entered a medical college in Uttarkhand's Pauri Garhwal district on Sunday, an official said.

The leopard entered the medical college premises around 10 am on Sunday, and was first spotted walking into the pharmacy block, where a conference was going on. The leopard attacked the clerk of the department, who tried to drive the cat away

“The leopard attacked the clerk when the latter reached close to the big cat. Subsequently, other staff members ran towards the animal with sticks and managed to make the big cat leave the building,” Narendra Singh Negi, station officer, Srinagar informed TOI. The injured clerk is now in a stable condition.

The big cat is hiding near the classrooms and the team was trying to get the animal out, he added.

District forest officer Laxman Singh said a team was rushed to the Srinagar Medical College and efforts to capture the leopard were underway. The entire staff of the medical college, including the doctors, teachers, students and residents are now on alert mode and the hostels have been vacated.






"The incident triggered panic among doctors, students as well as among the patients and their kin present at the medical college. The residents of the medical facility have been asked to remain alert and inform police if they sight the big cat again" officials told TOI
