Agra: An 'ashtdhatu' bust of Sarojini Naidu built with the help of money pooled by teachers, students and alumni of SN Medical College will be inaugurated at the annual day celebrations of the college next month. The money collected by the student teacher pool and used for the making of the bust amounts to Rs. 2 lakh.

A history research student has supervised the making of the bust to ensure that its features are accurate. Speaking to TOI, Shailendra Kumar, official spokesperson of S N Medical College said, “We had an over-50-year-old bust in the college premises near the library but it was almost destroyed due to several factors. A group of faculty members and students decided to come together and collect money for a new bust.”

Associate Professor, Head of Department (HOD), Microbiology and a member of the group that got the bust built, Ankur Goyal said, “We thought of revamping the bust of Sarojini Naidu as our college is named after her and we want to make people aware of her contribution to the society. We received much mental and financial support from our principal, faculty members, students and other staff of the college. Former students also came forward to help,” reports TOI

Officials revealed that the Rs 2 lakh, cost of the project, was used to pay for refurbishing the area around the bust with granite flooring and plants.
