UP:NEET 2016 counselling attended by 7000 students

Kanpur: Approximately 7000 candidates who had recently qualified National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-2016, reached Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi Memorial (GSVM) Medical College, to participate in the ongoing counselling-cum-registration process, on Tuesday. Majority the students hail ed from Lucknow, Allahabad, Meerut, Jhansi and Kanpur.


Seats in all the 14 government medical colleges which fall under the OBC and open categories, have been locked in the first two days of the counselling rush. The crowd witnessed on the third day for counselling was there in the hope of getting a private medical college seat, at the cost of a government college fee.


Subsidising of half the seats of all 21 private medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh, was a decision taken by the state government, a few days ago, and it resulted in a large number of candidates reaching the GSVM Medical College, to lock their seats on Tuesday.


Ranks ranging between 3001 & 10,000 had been invited to participate in the registration process. 288 candidates who had already gone through the registration process on Monday, locked their seats for government colleges on Tuesday.


According to the UPNEET website record, of the 1,544 seats of 14 government medical colleges, all general and OBC category open seats have already been locked.The remaining 560 remaining to be locked, belong to reserved categories like SC, ST, physically handicapped and single girl child category.


The counselling process on Tuesday, witnessed mismanagement in the absence of a bio metric system for identification and verification of documents,; with parents and children sitting around on staircases, as the halls could not contain the numbers that had appeared for counselling.


A team of medical college staff kept announcing the rank of the students, thereby, asking them to come forward to register themselves. The parents and guardians got into arguments with the college authorities.
