Kanpur: VRS sought by GSVM Medical college Principal
Kanpur: The Principal of Kanpur's Ganesh Shankar Memorial Medical College, Navneet Kumar has applied for retirement from his position under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).
Dr Kumar , cites his reason for giving up on the post as his desire to want to dedicate his time to the neuroscience department, for which he has been putting in efforts for the past many years.
Kumar is believed to had applied for a VRS, well before the BRD Medical College tragedy in Gorakhpur struck on August 10. Confirming that he had offered to resign three weeks ago to the DGME, he stated. "I want that neuroscience department of Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital should be developed as an institute and senior doctors from the department be appointed as head or director of it like cardiology institute or JK Cancer Institute of LLR."
Five years ago, Kumar while heading the medicine department, was asked to join as Principal, GSVM Medical College.
Out of the 14 medical colleges in the state, only five have permanent principals. These are colleges situated in Allahabad, Saharanpur, Kanpur, Badaun, and Orai. Dr Kumar also happens to hold a permanent post.
The three principals who have already quit are from the Saharanpur Medical College, Jhansi Medical College, and Agra Medical College. They have reportedly blamed poor working condition, favoritism in the appointments and unsatisfactory state of affairs in the Medical Education Department, as their reason for giving up on their positions, as principal, reports TOI.
