UP: RML Hospital and RML Institute merger to expand institute’s capacity

UP: RML Hospital and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) have announced their merger-to be confirmed on paper on April 1. The merger will coin a new title- RMLIMS officially.

The merger also spells cheers for the patients as it will increase the institute’s capacity from 350 beds to 1000 beds. RMLIMS will also offer primary and super-speciality patient care services.

It is reported to have a functional kidney transplant unit, a third institute in Lucknow to offer renal transplant after Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and KGMU in Lucknow.

Beginning next year, the institute will also start an MBBS course, and step up its offerings in medical education in super-speciality, with proposed 150 MBBS sears. This is however, subject to an approval from MCI as yet.

As a part of the plan, the institute is set to acquire 20 acres of land off Shaheed Path. This is being bought to lodge the doctors, post the merger.

As quoted by TOI, "All formalities are progressing in good speed and are almost done. The merger is an important step towards the making of a second government-aided medical institution offering MBBS course other than King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow," said Dr RC Agarwal, director, RML Hospital. Dr Deepak Malviya, director of RMLIMS said that once land was taken possession of, work on it would begin for a residential facility for doctors, students and nurses.
