UP medical college turns into battleground between seniors and juniors

Lucknow: Kannauj Medical College, UP's Mess and hostel witnessed intense hostilities and a physical brawl between the junior and senior batches over the issue of ragging, reported the police on Tuesday.


The two sides are believed to have engaged in a verbal altercation during dinner in the hostel mess; however, they were calmed down by others present.


However, tensions did not subside and surfaced again after midnight on the hostel premises, when the students ended up fighting a pitched battle of sorts in the hostel. They were witnessed throwing stones at each other and even harming the security guards present on the exchange site, said a police officer. Three guards are alleged to have sustained grievous injuries during the warfare on in the hostel.


Attempts by the Principal, D.S. Matoliya and the Chief Medical Superintendent Dilip Singh, to put an end to the fierce battle proved futile, forcing the authorities to summon the police.


The police used force to dispel the violent mob.


A denial has been issued by the management, about ragging being rampant on the college premises by the juniors.


"We take action whenever any such issue crops up and is established beyond doubt," the Principal told Hans India. The college authorities said that action would be taken against the students who perpetrated in disciplinary acts of violence


College authorities said they were identifying the students, who were involved in the midnight violence and disciplinary action would be taken against them.
