Lucknow: A letter circulated on the KGMU campus claiming that there were anomalies existing in the selection of the present Vice Chancellor, Prof MLB Bhatt, led to an FIR being lodged with the Wajirganj police, recently. The letter was signed by Prof. SC Tiwari, Head Geriatric Mental Health, King George’s Medical University.

Prof. Tiwari, however, denied having written the letter. He said, “It seems someone has done mischief by using my signature that too appears to be scanned and pasted on the letter.” Prof Tiwari is also the former Chief Medical Superintendent, KGMU.

The 4-page letter dated Tuesday and circulated on Wednesday morning, was addressed to the Chief Minister & the Governor. It carries 8 points highlighting anomalies in the selection of the Vice Chancellor.

“I have filed a FIR with the Wajirganj police. The matter should be probed as my false signature is printed on it,” said Prof Tiwari.

“Prof Tiwari had told me that the letter was not written by him,” KGMU Vice Chancellor, Prof MLB Bhatt told HT.

This letter is not the first to have generated a controversy on the KGMU campus. Another letter from the Vice Chancellor’s office issued a few days ago had also generated a similar uproar. This letter from the VC to the Chancellor's office, spoke of the alleged anomalies during the former Vice Chancellor, Prof Ravi Kant’s tenure.

However, Prof Ravi Kant denied the charges, and said every decision during his tenure was taken, as per rules.

One of the complainants came forward with charges of name misused and added he had no complaint against the former Vice Chancellor.“All those allegations and charges that we cannot investigate at our level have been referred to the Chancellor’s office,” said Prof Bhatt.

“Since appointments are made under the supervision of the Chancellor, we have referred these charges there for further decision or instructions, ” he added speaking to the HT
