Thiruvanathapuram: With the Trivandrum Medical College introducing online results for various diagnostic laboratory tests conducted on patients, the running from pillar to post by patients or their close ones will now come to an end.

The hospital development society laboratory, Xray unit, CT Scan and MRI Scan unit reports will now be available online to doctors on their computers in their respective wards in real time; and messages regarding the same would appear on the registered cell phone numbers of the bystanders, which would help them to convey the message to the doctor immediately. The patient relatives can procure the report by showing the bill numbers.

The doctors, on the other hand, could start their treatments immediately without having to wait for their patient reports for hours. Moreover, it will also help MCH authorities to avoid films as part of the green protocol.

A footfall of 2,500 people at the central laboratory and 1,500 at the HDS laboratory for blood samples is witnessed daily. The CT, MRI and CT scan witness 40, 200 and 600 people coming in for tests.

As these diagnostic centres are located in a spread on the campus, bystanders are constantly on the run for report results. When patients require multiple tests, the bystanders have to visit these laboratories several times in a day.

Complaints regarding incessant delays in lab test results have often been received by MCH authorities. The inconvenience faced by the patients and their bystanders led the Health Minister, K.K. Shailaja to take this online initiative.

The introduction of a similar system in the casualty wing has resulted in good reports being received, regarding better efficiency in terms of test results. Hospital Superintendent, Dr M.S. Sharmad and Deputy Superintendent, Dr Santosh Kumar have played an active role in bringing in this hi-tech system.

A New software and a new networking system were introduced for this purpose. The authorities are presently also developing a mobile App, on which the results of the diagnostic tests would gather pace, reports Deccan Chronicle.
