Agartala: The molestation of two female patients at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) in the past two days has led the opposition political parties to call for the resignation of the state Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar. They asked for his resignation in the face of failure to protect women of the state.

Two women were physically attacked and abused by intruders on the hospital campus. A woman of Indranagar admitted with a complaint of chest pain to the female medicine ward was allegedly molested by an unidentified man, while sleeping in the ward. The lady along with other patients started shouting for help, as the accused fled. The victim lodged a complaint with the police. After registering the complaint, the police looked at the CCTV coverage and identified the miscreant as Sunil Das (37), a resident of Melaghar. On arrest a case of molestation was registered against him, at the East Agartala Women's police station.

The second case of molestation inside the female medicine ward was reported a day after the first incident, when a 15-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a TSR jawan.

Police however, are yet to arrest the accused. The Opposition Trinamool Congress, BJP and Congress have separately asked Mr Sarkar to submit his resignation as his administration has failed miserably, in discharging its duty towards the security of the state's women .

"In an average five ladies are being subjected to fall victim of crime in the state and during last three years the crime on women goes beyond control due to political interference on police functioning by the ruling party. All the criminals are getting shelter in CPI-M," added Trinamool Congress President Ashis Saha while speaking to the Shillong Times.
