TN: Government Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital begin Super Speciality OPDs

Tiruvarur: 5 super speciality OPDs were initiated at Government Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital on Thursday. The Super speciality OPDs started are: plastic surgery, physical medicine & rehabilitation, urology, cardiology and neurology. The inauguration of the five was done by the District Collector L. Nirmal Raj.


According to Dean of the college, AL Meenakshi Sundaram, The physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital was the first to begin in the delta region. The others being in Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Chennai & Chengalpattu.


The outpatient department will offer healthcare services through out the week except Sundays. The other services to be rendered by the department include neurological rehabilitation, orthopedics & chronic pain syndromes.


Mr. Nirmal Raj who spoke on the occasion has asked the college to collect data on people with disabilities so that treatment could be offered to them at the first ever Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service in the region.


The out patient services of the various OPDs would be functional on the following days:




  • Mondays and Thursdays-Urology

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays- Plastic Surgery Department

  • Mondays and Thursdays-Cardiology

  • Tuesdays and Fridays- Neurology Department


Doctors are to be on call round the clock and the OPDs will remain in operation between 10 am and 12 noon


Emergency help line number 9445551108 will be accessible for all emergency treatments.


Mr. Nirmal Raj also inspected the fully air conditioned casualty ward, a hi-tech surgical intensive care unit functioning under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance.
