Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College controversy has finally subsided with the college authorities stating that they have no objection to the seating arrangement of boys and girls in the classroom or anywhere else on campus. The matter has met its peace at the initiative of Health Minister, K.K. Shylaja, who got the teachers and students around a table, on Monday, to sort out their differences on the issue.

A section of faculty recently objected to the Ist year MBBS student's mixed sitting arrangement in the classroom. It is believed that the students began sitting together after attending a gender sensitization seminar at college. The student’s decision had led to annoyance among the faculty.

However, the meeting between the students and teachers has finally brought matters to rest. The College Principal, Dr. Thomas Mathew at the meeting made it explicitly clear to the students that they could go ahead with their seating arrangement choices both in the classroom and anywhere on campus. The students have also expressed their satisfaction on the stand taken by the faculty reports Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, there has been resentment among a section of students over the of the college not expressing its regret on the negative campaign carried out against the FB post of a student. A print of the FB post was circulated at the PTA meeting and parents who liked the post were singled out. The students, on the other hand, were asked to give an undertaking that they were not for the vulgar sections of the post.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that there was a huge hue and cry in the medico fraternity after a complaint by a section of students that some lecturers had asked boys and girls not to sit together in classrooms.
