Thirsty Medical Students at Lady Harding Medical College threaten MASS LEAVE from May 1
New Delhi: The students of Lady Harding Medical College(LHMC) have threatened to go on 'Mass Leave' from May 1, if the authorities pay no heed to the request made by them in a letter, for provision of clean drinking water on the college premises.
Following are the contents of the letter written by the RDA body to the Director, LHMC:
This is to bring to your notice the total ignorant behavior of your administration towards our demand for clean drinking water facility in our Campus. Even after requests and lots of meetings between our representatives and your office nothing has been done. Every time only assurances have been given suggesting lackluster attitude and complete absence of will from your side to provide a very basic requirement of ours. This leaves us with no other choice but to protest against your office.
Students of LHMC would again request you to kindly look into the matter and take appropriate actions as soon as possible otherwise we will be going on Mass Leave from 1st May 2017 onwards.
Delhi is well into its summer with temperatures soaring to 44 degrees and students of the Lady Harding Medical College, face it bravely with parched throats. Kalawati Saran Hospital affiliated to the college running the state's largest neonatal wing and also one of the biggest children's hospital of Asia stands affected as well. The medical college has not had a single water cooler installation for the last three years.
“We have no water cooler in the entire campus. It is one of the basic facilities to ask for and we are not even getting that. Even the patients have to get their own drinking water,” said one of the doctors from the hospital.Having no options doctors have started purchasing packaged drinking water, to bide long hours of ward duties.
“Its been three years and no such facility has been added. We have been requesting the minister as well as the health secretaries to look into the matter. We are giving our heart and soul to treat the patients but the administration doesn’t care at all,” Dr Vivek Chouksey, President, Resident Doctors Association, LHMC
