The Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar Physiology Department, Storeroom and chemical lab were broken into, on Monday night, by thieves, who removed an LCD monitor and goods from the storeroom. The authorities have yet to ascertain the extent of the loss incurred. This they said would be assessed when the records in the storeroom are matched with the goods.

Speaking about the incident, an employee told Tribune, “They took away an LCD monitor. Many goods can be missing as there is a huge stock of goods at the storeroom. The theft appears to be the work of an insider who knew everything.”

A police complaint has been filed said College Principal, Dr Tejbir Singh told Tribune. Since the theft occurred in the academic area, there was nobody present in the area.

“Clerks of the department have also been asked to submit the report about the missing goods. We have also instructed the security staff to increase vigil in the area during the night,” he said.

Two thieves had broken in early last year and absconded with Buprenorphine tablets worth Rs 11 lakh from the OST centre from the college premises. The police had managed book the two and also recovered a part of the medicines after a few days.
