Nizamabad: The Medical Council of India(MCI), has sent shock waves down the Government Medical College (GMC), Nizamabad authorities by denying the institution permission for the academic year 2017-18. The college will also not be granted the promised 100 MBBS seats. The same is the fate of Osmania the other medical institution in the state which has been declined 50 seats by the MCI. The reason again happens to be infra structural deficiencies , shortage of teaching and non teaching staff and doctor indifference.

Though the MCI visits are an annual phenomenon, doctors have acquired an attitude of indifference to these visits as well. The infra structural construction of new buildings in the past had also slackened in pace leading to the MCI issuing a warning to the college authorities to undertake the rectifications as quick as possible. Doctor indifference to the state of affairs is leading to the state government bearing the outcomes and the college loosing the 100 promised seats reports Hans India. The government has been notified, in this regard, by the apex body.

The MCI has however, assured that the medical seats would be restored, if the college makes up for the deficiency. The college management has been blamed for not having taken corrective steps despite, repeated reminders from the District Collector, Dr Yogita Rana, who it is believed, had asked the management to mend its ways.

Though academically rated in the better category of colleges with the past percentage varying between 80 and 90 percent, even better than the Osmania; the indifferent attitude of the college professors and doctors has led the MCI to decline permission for the next academic session. The students are the lot that happen to be in a state of anxiety now.

Set up four years ago, and with the first batch on the verge of clearing, the college has been declined permission for the net academic session due to falling short of the stipulated MCI guidelines. The impacted remain the students, who are now anxious about the fall out of the MCI's decision. The teaching posts of Professors and Associate Professors in the college continue to remain vacant, and the faculty is found irregular in taking classes as well.

The doctors an indifferent lot are busy pursuing their private practices though there is a footfall of 800-1000 at the government hospital every day.The doctors continue to remain in Hyderabad and are infrequent visitors to the college. The students are not being provided with study material either.

However, Dr Indira refuted many of the MCI reasons for not granting permission to allow continuation with the next academic session. She said teaching posts had been filled up after the MCI inspection and 21 professors promoted. She was hopeful of the college being granted permission to continue for the next academic session, once the state government submitted its report to the MCI. Student Unions have staged their protest against the state of affairs, by staging demonstrations, over the MCI's decision. They have also expressed their resentment against District Collector Rana, for keeping aloof.

The Nizamabad MP K Kavitha, has given an assurance to the students about their cause being taken up both with the MCI and the state government by her and their interests being protected.. She also addressed the State Health Minister, Dr Lakshma Reddy and the District Collector, Dr Yogitha Rana about the issue.
