Telangana: Panic on TS EAMCET-II paper leak rumour, CID probe ordered
This came after many instances have come to light of vast differences in the performances of many students across examinations
“A student, who got a rank of more than 25,000 in Andhra Pradesh Eamcet, has got a rank below 500 in Telangana Eamcet-II. We have their report cards. How can a student get such a huge difference in securing ranks in the two Eamcets in AP and TS? Also some parents have called us and expressed doubts that a coaching centre in Vijayawada had a copy of the leaked question paper a week ago,” said M Raghavendra, ABVP national executive member told Indian Express.
Many students' groups and parents raised doubts as many meritorious students failed to get good rank while students who did not perform well in EAMCET-I secured top ranks.
With the rumours spreading like wildfire in the state, anxious aspirants and parents demanded action from the authorities
The Telangana police chief on Wednesday ordered a CID probe into alleged leakage of question paper of TS EAMCET-II, conducted for admissions to medical courses.
Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Sharma asked the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to conduct an inquiry into the allegations that large scale irregularities took place.
This came after EAMCET (Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine Common Entrance Test) convenor N.V. Ramana Rao, met him and made a request.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), which conducted the exam, also ordered an internal probe. The action came after parents and students' groups staged a protest. Activists of Students' Federation of India (SFI), All India Students' Federation (AISF) and other groups on Wednesday morning staged a sit-in at JNTU, demanding probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari however, told the Hindu that there was no leakage of question paper of Eamcet-2. He condemned the media reports on leakage and said there was no such leakage as being alleged. However, he said he would conduct inquiry into the allegations.
EAMCET II for admissions into MBBS and BDS courses in Telangana was conducted on July 9. Out of 50,961 students appeared for the exam, 47,644 were qualified.
Students have already been under pressure since the government decided to hold EAMCET twice over the uncertainity on NEET. With the paper leak rumors circulating, once again students have been on the edge.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), tightening its hold, is taking stringent steps to prevent malpractice for the upcoming NEET Phase-2 exam scheduled for July 24.
