Telangana EAMCET-2 shows a drop in number of applicants registered

Telangana: After the first round of EAMCET was cancelled and fresh applications were invited for the test to be conducted on July 9, there has been almost a 50% drop in the number of applications received for medical courses through EAMCET 2 in the state. It has received only 54,351 applications in comparison to more than one lakh medical aspirants applying in EAMCET-1 for MBBS and BDS admissions. The earlier exam was cancelled due to the pending decision on NEET.

The last date for submitting applications for the exam has now been extended by a week. The last date was June 7, now stands extended by another week. The decision has been taken by the Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) after it noted the drop in applications received so far.

Chairman of TSCHE Papi Reddy in his statement implied that medical aspirants who are not sure about securing their rank in top 2000 through EAMCET, will also appear for NEET 2. This will be done to make sure that they are able to secure admission.

Ramana Rao, convenor of Eamcet-2 in addition implied that since there only limited seats through EAMCET, students will also appear for NEET to secure admissions in medical institutes outside the state. Considering that 30,000 students could not qualify earlier through EAMCET-1, students will prepare well for 2,000 convener quota seats. This will be in government and private medical colleges both. The number of exam centres will be decided on June 15.

“In EAMCET-2, we will be giving out 1+1 OMR sheets to students. With this, students will be able to take a carbon copy of their answer sheet,” told Rao to the media.

Over 1 lakh applications were received for EAMCET 1 from two Telugu states. EAMCET-1 was conducted on May 15 for filling up seats for courses in agriculture, veterinary, pharma, ayurveda and homeopathic seats.
