Tanda Medical College begins six month Community Health Officer Course

Kangra: Dr Rajender Prashad Govt Medical College and Hospital Tanda (Tanda Medical College) has recently started a six-month certified course in "Community Health" for a batch of 60 nurses.

The confirmation to this effect was announced by Dr Bhanu Awasthi, Principal at Tanda Medical College who informed UNI that the course is certified by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and every year two batches will be trained and passed out from this institution. He said that the next academic session will start in January 2020.

During the announcement of this health course, Dr Awasthi welcomed the students and introduced course objectives. Further, Dr Parveen Kumar, Nodal Officer of the course introduced course curriculum and study material to the participants.

Tanda Medical College Principal stated that after completion of this course, these nurses will be posted at upcoming Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) across the state as Community Health Officers (CHOs).

He added that course will ensure better health care near to people and strengthen the primary health care in hard to reach areas and thanked the Department of Community Medicine for coordinating this course.

In June this year, Tanda Medical College was ranked among the top medical colleges of the country as per a survey conducted by India Today on seven parameters including infrastructure, academic excellence and governance.

Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College is state-owned medical college and hospital located in district Kangra of Himachal Pradesh.

The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh on 23rd Oct. 1996.

The first batch of 50 MBBS students was admitted in 1998. Since then, the intake of MBBS students has increased to 100 seats.
