Tamil Nadu: NHRM team inspects Coimbatore Medical College
Coimbatore: A three member inspection team of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) on Wednesday visited the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC), to verify whether the college could qualify for a central government scheme.
Under the scheme, an exclusive department to teach faculty, students of medicine, nursing and paramedical courses the vital skills of first-aid and medical emergency will be set up..
The Rs 1.2 crore project described as an "ongoing medical process," will be run by the NRHM for the first five years and is to include teaching staff skills like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of defibrillators in case a patient goes into cardiac arrest and mouth to mouth resuscitation among others. "They will be taught using mannequins," said CMCH Dean, Dr Edwin Joe.
"Two medical colleges from Tamil Nadu have been selected for this program, Coimbatore and Madurai," he added.
After the initial five years of NRHM running the project, it is to be handed over to the state government to run.
