Tamil Nadu rank list for MBBS and BDS counseling released

Tamil Nadu: The MBBS and BDS rank list for counseling has been announced in the state by the heath minister C Vijaya Bhaskar. Aadithya Mahesh MV, Vignesh V and Gnanavel EJ are the three top rank holders, with each one of them scoring 200 marks.

Aadithya Mahesh MV of Kanyakumari district has done her schooling from Carmel Girls' higher secondary school, Vazhuthacaud, Trivandrum. Aadithya seeks admission in Madras Madical College, which will help her to fulfill her dream to serve the poor later.

8 students from different schools in the state, one from Kerala, and one from Andhra Pradesh, also featured among the top 10 rank holders.

Dr. G. Selvarajan, secretary, selection committee said to the media that this year, only three centums were recorded, as against last year's 17. "Last year, 261 students scored above 199, however, this year, there were only 187," he added, pointing out that the performance has gone down. A unique feature this year was an application received from a transgender. Of the 26,017 applications that were received, 25, 379 were found eligible," he said, adding that 9,017 applicants were boys and 16,361 girls."

Medical aspirants seeking admissions to medical colleges for MBBS and BDS courses will also require to appear for counseling later for the 2,853 seats shared with the government in state-run medical colleges. This number also includes the seats by self-financing colleges. 20 state medical colleges will offer 2,650 MBBS seats under state quota. Another 470 medical aspirants can seek admission through surrendered seats by 6 self-financed colleges. Another 397 medical seats will be allocated under state quota. The procedure of single window counseling for general candidates will start on June 21 and for special category, it will be held on June 20.

Tamil Nadu health minister C Vijaya Bhaskar said to TOI that call letters had not been sent to students due to time constraints.

"Students can see the schedule on the websites www.tnhealth.org and www.tn.gov.in and present themselves for counselling," he said adding that the exact cut-off would be known later.

The counselling is scheduled in Kilpauk Medical College in Chennai. The process will begin with students under special category. This includes students with sports quota, children of ex-servicemen and physically-challenged students.
