Tamil Nadu : A plea submitted by 9 class XII students asking for NEET Exemption for the academic year 2017-18 has been turned down by the Madras High Court.

Division Bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and M. Sundar while rejecting the plea moved by G. Murugavel and others advised them to move the apex court(SC) for relief.

The petitioners in their petition stated that since higher secondary education comprised of both class XI and XII syllabus, therefore, providing students of State Board in the academic year 2016-17 exemption from NEET and compelling the next batch who were in Class XI during 2016-17 and are currently in Class XII to appear cannot be justified.

They demanded that exemption be given for the current year, as well, or students not be compelled to give the NEET without a corresponding state law, following minimum standards in higher secondary education at par with the Medical Council of India(MCI), norms the student petitioners added, reports Hindu.
