Tamil Nadu government to create 969 posts in ESIC medical college and GMCs

Tamil Nadu: CM Jayalalithaa is reported to have issued order for creating a total of 969 posts in ESIC medical college and GMCs in Coimbatore and Pudukkottai. The various new posts in the said medical colleges are likely to cost the state government a total amount of Rs 48.55 crore in a year.


Hindu report implied that 808 posts, including Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, nurses, para-medical employees will be made available in ESIC Medical College and GMC Coimbatore. Elsewhere, 161 similar posts would be offered in the GMC Pudukkottai.


An administration sanction has been granted for establishment of infrastructure at both the colleges. This includes establishing buildings at an amount of Rs 229.46 crore. GMC Pudukkottai is expected to provide accommodation for 150 students in 2017-18.


A Special Officer has been given appointment for supervision of the construction work on classrooms of the college.


An official release here said during the past five years, three more government medical colleges were started to accommodate 300 medical students. Besides, approval had been received for admitting 410 more medical students in the existing seven government medical colleges while the ESI Medical College would accommodate 100 students. In all, the total number of medical seats have been increased by 810.


Only recently, AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sanctioned Rs 75,000 towards the educational expenses of a poor medical aspirant. Jayalalithaa has borne the entire medical education expenses of Mekala, hailing from Puthukottai district, following a plea from the girl, a party release said. The girl had pleaded for assistance with the Chief Minister citing her poor economic background, it said, adding she had received admission at Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital. Jayalalithaa, who will be bearing the entire educational expenses of the girl, has sanctioned Rs 75,000 towards tuition fee and others for the first year from the 'Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Best Charitable Trust," it said.
