Tamil Nadu: Dr MGR Medical University sees a drop in applications for MBBS course

Tamil Nadu: Dr MGR Medical University has noted a drop in number of applications received for admission to the medical course it offers. It has reported that overall the number of candidates likely to appear for the MBBS and BDS course offered at colleges attached to the university has seed a drop in sale of applications in 2016.


The Directorate of Medical Education has reported that a total of 25,498 application forms for both the courses have been sold for candidates seeking admission at the university. The forms were made available through a single window counseling system.


However, the last day for submitting the complete forms is today (June 07). So far, 14,550 filled-up forms have been submitted by medical aspirants. In comparison, 2015 saw a total of 31,687 forms sold, and 3000 aspirant’s submitted filled-in applications.


The application form process was made available to aspirants from 26 May on the official website of tnhealth.org. In addition, 20 government medical colleges and the government dental college were also selling the application forms.


According to Director of Medical Education R Vimala, merit list will be declared on 17 June and the first phase of counselling will be held from 20 to 25 June. The second phase of counseling will be held from 18 July.


The only government dental college in Tamil Nadu offers 85 seats. The state government students can avail these 85 seats. Besides, 15 seats are also provided through the All-India quota. The self-financed institutes in the state will offer 970 seats through the government quota, in turn to be filled up through single window counseling.
