Jamshedpur: The Supreme Court ruling in favour of the MGM Medical College and Hospital has resulted in a three-member Medical Council of India team visiting the hospital for an inspection to allow the college to retain all its 100 MBBS seats.

The earlier in the year negative report submitted by the MCI officials to the Health Ministry had resulted in the cancellation of 50 seats.

The medical college at Dimna in Mango and the hospital at Sakschi were visited by a two-member MCI team on Tuesday to inspect the premises on the court’s directive of seat allotment to the college. The college and hospital are located at a 6 km distance

MGM hospital’s senior administrative officer stated that "the inspection team observed existing infrastructure at both the college and hospital and would submit its report to the council in New Delhi."

AC Akhouri, Principal, MGM Medical College, Dimna confirmed the MCI inspection to have taken place, however, refused to reveal further details, including the names of the 3 inspectors.

"I can only say that a three-member team of the MCI has come from New Delhi for the inspection of the medical college and hospital. The inspection team will stay here today (Tuesday) and leave for New Delhi tomorrow (Wednesday)," Akhouri elaborated to the Telegraph.

The two-member team also visited the departments of orthopedics, surgery, ENT, gynecology physiology, and anatomy. They, however, did not reveal anything to the media about the impending report.

Hospital superintendent S.N. Jha, senior doctors and officials accompanied the MCI inspector for a tour of the MGM hospital in Sakchi. The member visited the medical and surgical wards, administrative building, emergency, and the outpatient department.

The member accompanying the inspector also declined to speak to the reporters while the college superintendent called it a "routine inspection". "The MCI is inspecting the medical facilities and infrastructure," Jha briefly added.

The SC on Monday while giving a favourable directive for MGM college also stated that deficiencies whether infrastructural or resource must meet MCI compliance with a 3 month period and should be complied to under the supervision of the chief secretary and the health secretary.
