Hyderabad : Setting some grounds clear for the purpose of PG admissions to medical colleges here, the Hyderabad High Court has directed that the practice of blocking seats will not be followed any more. This means that students who have bagged the seats in the first round of counseling would first have to surrender them, if they want to sit for a further round of counseling.

This effectively implies that if a student has taken up a seat in a particular specialization in one round of PG counseling, further round of counseling will only be possible if the student first surrenders the seat secured.

The direction, which came in the form of an interim order, was issued after a plea of Dr M Apoorva and six other PG aspirants, who challenged the actions of authorities in this regard.

Justice P Naveen Rao has directed Dr NTR University of Health Sciences as well as Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to insist the students who secured PG Medical seats in the first round of counseling under the 15% quota for non-locals to forego their seats for participating in the subsequent rounds of counseling reports

The hon’ble judge has further directed both the universities to ensure that all clinical seats in all branches are made available to the students to enable them to excersise option for admissions in the following academic year.

The petition had pointed out that the seats in Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada were not shown to the students falling under the purview of Kaloji varsity. While the hearing is still on in the court, through the interim order, the court has clarified that if any of the students who were allotted seats in Siddhartha Medical College opt out on account of securing admission in any other college or university, those seats should also be made available to all students of AP and Telangana in the next rounds of counselling.
