Nagpur: The students of Government Medical College(GMC), Nagpur have expressed deep resentment about the college collecting Rs. 5000 every year from each student in the name of development, without any inputs in the direction being made by the college authorities. Protesting students had an audience with the dean on the matter, who in reply to their grouse said development fee was part of the fee rules of the Directorate Medical Education and Research (DMER).

A written complaint has been lodged by the MARD doctors to the DMER and Central Mard demanding that this fee is to be put an end to.

There are 1000 undergraduate students and 400 postgraduate students who submit development fee running into lakhs to the college authorities.

Colleges that do not get funds from the government, get them from students. However, this college is a government institution, therefore, all expenses are meant to be borne by the government is the sentiment expressed by students reports Nagpur Today.

However, it continues to take Rs.5000 from students in the name of development, they add.
