Student Duped of Rs 40 lakhs with a promise of admission to KIMS

Pune: Posing as an administrative officer of Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Harshavardhan, a Bengaluru resident, has duped Rama Lakshmi (40) a resident of Tiruvallur, Chennai of Rs 40 lac rupees. He had promised her son admission at KIMS for the exchange of this money which amounted to Rs. 30 lac in cash and another Rs.10 lac as an online transfer.


The man has now been booked under Sections 406, 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.


The Vimantal police has booked four people for the crime; the four being: Pavan Pandey, Director of Dreams Way Knowledge and Services, Shailesh Kumar Singh and Abhinav Verma who worked at the firm’s office at Lunkad Sky Station in Vimanagar; the fourth being Harshavardhan, who posed as an administrative officer of KIMS.


The entire scene came to light when Rama Lakshmi registered a case with the Vimantal police station. She highlighted that the firm contacted the complainant over phone and then persuaded them in a meeting, promising that the boy would get admission at KIMS, if they agreed to pay Rs 40 lakh.


“The complainant paid Rs 30 lakh in cash and Rs 10 lakh through online transfer. Accused Harshavardhan had posed as the Administrative Officer of KIMS assuring the complainant of the admission. This entire episode happened over a period of four months. Needless to say that the admission never happened,” said V T Sonde, Police Inspector (Crime) of Vimantal Police Station. The office of the firm has been closed for days and all the accused are currently at large, the police said. “We will manage to catch them,” Sonde told Indian Express.
