Still NO NEET exemption for students in Telangana

Telangana: According to a recent media report, medical aspirants in the state are required to appear for EAMCET and NEET both. Yes; the management quota seat rule for seeking admissions in private medical colleges applies here too.

Eamcet will continue to be the entrance gateway for students seeking admission in government medical colleges as well as state government quota in private medical colleges in the state. It may be noted that the Centre’s ordinance does not exempt management quota seats admission from NEET. NEET is the qualifying exam for it.

Even though all the states have been exempted from NEET this year for admissions in government medical institutions, the NEET (exam fever) still has its grip on students. Still, from the very beginning the state of Telangana was a clear exception to the NEET rule. It was exempted from the then mandatory rule of medical aspirants required to appear for NEET for the academic session 2016-17 (on technical and legal grounds). With the new management quota rule, their anxiety is not over.

So, now the students will have to bear the extra pressure of appearing for two exams within two months. Neet is scheduled on July 24. However, Eamcet will get its final dates soon.

In one way, the same rule applied to the state of AP also. But then, APEAMCET has already been held. So, medical aspirants in the state are now required to appear only for Neet for admission in private medical colleges.

Telangana had earlier conducted its Eamcet on May 15. However, the authorities later announced that Eamcet was not for admission in medical and dental courses as the SC verdict on NEET was still pending, involving all states in the matter.

After the ordinance passed by the Centre and with the President approving it now, the students in the state are now required to appear for Eamcet being conducted for medical admissions.
