Rajasthan: NEET Candidate commits suicide

Kota: A female medical aspirant, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam ended her life by hanging herself to a ceiling fan in her room on 15 January 2020.

The deceased girl has been identified as a resident of Himachal Pradesh who was preparing for the medical entrance test from the last two years in Kota. She was staying in Paying guest accommodation (PG).

The incident came to light after a girl from the same building sneaked a look into her room through the window when no response came from inside. She noticed her body hanging from the ceiling fan and immediately informed her PG owner about the incident who then called the police officials. After reaching the spot, the Police officials broke the door of her room to get in and took the girl to the MBS hospital where she was declared brought dead. The body was later sent for the postmortem.

As per the recent media report by TOI, no suicide note was recovered from her room hence the reason for the suicide is still unclear. A case under Section 174 has been registered with the Dadabari police station. IPC Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure is a legal provision that deals with the procedure that the police and the magistrate need to follow in cases of suicide and unnatural death.

Every year, there are many similar cases of the suicides which are mostly exerted by the pressure and depression due to the studies. Medical dialogues had earlier reported that last year two medical aspirants who failed to crack the NEET committed suicide.

The largest entrance examination for UG medical courses, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the gateway for admissions to medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH courses in the country. The test will be conducted as per regulations of the Indian Medical Council Act-1956 and the Dentists Act-1948, and as amended from time to time.This year, the admission to MBBS course in AIIMS, New Delhi, JIPMER and all AIIMS like institutions will also be made through NEET.

NEET 2020 will be conducted on 3 May 2020 (Sunday) from 02:00 p.m. to 05:00 p.m.
