Sri Guru Ram Rai Medical College sent a notice for charging more fee

Dehradun: The Medical Education Department will be sending a final notice to the Sri Guru Ram Rai (SGRRMC) Medical College on alleged charges of asking for more fee from medical students at the college. The department has earlier sent another notice asking it for a written reply for the alleged charges of asking for a higher fee than that stipulated by the Medical Council of India. The apex regulator has fixed a fee of Rs 5 lakh per annum for the MBBS course.


Some students have have alleged that the college is charging three times the fee fixed by the MCI for the Ist and the second year at Sri Guru Ram Rai Medical College. Private college are not supposed to charge more fee than that fixed by the education regulator.


The Medical Education, Director, Dr Ashutosh Sayana told The Pioneer that the Department had received several complaints from students about more fee being charged by Sri Guru Ram Rai Medical College and a final notice in this regard was soon to be dispatched to the college. The department had warned colleges in the state about charging more fee from students already, he added.


The Sri Guru Ram Rai Medical College spokesperson Bhupendra Raturi, however declined being in the know of any such notice having been served to the college. It is significant to mention here that a Supreme Court directive earlier the government had abolished the college quota in private medical colleges.


Admissions to both private and government colleges are now to be based on the National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET) and Common Counselling.
