Sports quota in MBBS admissions: Deputy Director SAT booked for alleged irregularities

Hyderabad: Deputy Director, Sports Authority of Telangana (SAT), at Ramananthapur faced the embarrassment of a raid at his residence by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Wednesday, in connection with allegations of allotment of medical seats under sports quota with fake credentials.


Four other sports authority officials, K. Manohar, in-charge, A&SS, G.A. Shoba, deputy director (C&A), cycling velodrome, Vimalakar Rao, administrator, SATS and G. Chandra Reddy, the administrator also faced checks at their places for further evidence, reports the Hindu.


SP Ramana Kumar, Bureau Additional claimed that the State government had referred a case to the ACB on a complaint lodged by P. Satyanarayana, father of Bharathchandra Reddy for inquiry on certain irregularities. The irregularities are alleged to have been related to MBBS and BDS admissions in various medical colleges in the State last academic year.


“The complainant said Venkataramana had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh for providing a copy of the allotment of priorities to the sportspersons for admission under sports quota with fake credentials but failed to provide admission,” he told the Hindu.


A case of criminal misconduct was registered after the preliminary investigation against the accused on Tuesday, and an arrest followed on Wednesday


According to Mr. Kumar required documentary and digital evidence collected from the office of SAT will now lead to Venkataramana being produced before the ACB Court for judicial remand.
