Solutions to tuberculosis to be found by medical colleges, say experts

Visakhapatnam: TB Control Officer, Andhra Pradesh, Dr. T. Rama Rao revealed that if anybody could find solutions to key issues related to Tuberculosis control, it was the medical colleges. Mr. Rao was speaking at a Continuing Medical Education Programme, at Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research on Saturday.


Highlighting notification of TB cases as mandatory and emphasizing the role of medical colleges for the same, Mr. Rao spoke about the goals set by the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP).He stated 'universal access to early quality diagnosis and treatment for all TB patients' as one of the primary goals of it.


According to a Consultant of the World Health Organization on Tuberculosis, the organization was actively collaborating with both the Union government and the RNTCP to identify complicated cases and bring them under treatment.


The establishment of a diagnostic facility at Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences is one such step in this direction he added.
