SKIMS gets MCI approval to increase 3 more seats in MCh Urology
Srinagar: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has recently increased the seat intake of MCh Urology course at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for the academic year 2019-20.
In the order issued by the MCI mentioned that the seat capacity for MCh Urology/ Genito-urinary surgery at SKIMS will be increased from the existing one to four seats.

Professor Omar Javed Shah, Director SKIMS told the Kashmir Reader, "It is because of the dedicated team of the department of urology, whose work is being appreciated across the country and abroad that the Council has increased the seat intake four-fold."
Overwhelmed with the decision of the MCI, Prof Saleem Wani explained that this would help in improving treatment facilities for urology and related ailments across India.
"In just a few years since its inception, the department has proven exceptional and one of the best in country and administration would extend all support to the team," he further added.
He aspired that in the coming 10 years, 40 urologists will be ready who will provide specialized care, a much-needed facility world-over.
The Department of Urology was started at the SKIMS in 2014, and in the same year, MCh course began with just one seat.
This premier medical and research institution of the state incorporates more than 50 departments which include medicine and allied, surgery and allied and other departments.

The Union government has approved the construction of medical colleges in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that with the completion of the new medical colleges in Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Anantnag and Baramulla, 500 MBBS students would be annually added to the overall capacity of the course in the state.
